Elder Care Consultation Services

Sometimes, you may find yourself just wanting to talk to someone to help give you some direction in issues such as:

  • Facility comparison and evaluation with costs and options compared with aging in place in one’s own home:
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Board and Care home? Assisted Living Facility? Community Care or Life Care Community?
  • What are some of the above that are known to have good reputations and offer good care (the ones that look the best are not always the best in care).
  • When is someone eligible for MediCal and what facilities accept medical?
  • Would my parent be able to utilize any VA benefits to pay for their long-term  care?
  • Caring for your elderly parent who has Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia – What are the options for care?
  • Mediating difficult decisions amongst siblings who all feel differently about the care plan for your parent.
  • Making decision to relocate a parent or loved one

Quality of Life Focus & Services

We pay close attention to quality of life indicators to monitor the quality of care our clients are receiving.  We evaluate such factors as:

  1. Can the client communicate naturally and easily with his or her caregivers?
  2. Are there food differences called for by a cultural or religious background?
  3. Is their social setting appropriate, or more formal/casual than they were used  to (if client has relocated to a new residence or facility for example)?
  4. What does the person enjoy in life?  What don’t they enjoy (i.e. specific behaviors, etc. that tend to bother them).
  5. What are the individual’s routines and habits? Are they being integrated into the person’s life by the caregiver?

The outcome of the Quality of Life Assessment helps to enrich the care plan and provides guidelines in training caregivers in how to be with the client in a way that recognizes their unique life experience.

We can arrange for specialized care companion*  visits as often as you like.  This person is carefully selected to engage with your parent or loved one based on their interests.
